1st Visit

First Visit:  What to Expect

The first visit is all about you!   The doctor is going to sit down with you and listen to your concerns.
We want to know everything you can tell us about your condition and your health goals.

We will then review your health history, do a thorough orthopedic neurologic chiropractic examination and if necessary, a set of x-rays, to learn as much as possible about your condition.  Digital x-rays will then be sent to expert radiologists to be reviewed.

This first visit should take around just over an hour depending on whether you have completed the necessary paperwork, and depending on severity of your condition.  This is the end of the first visit in most cases.

Depending on schedule and , the doctor will then meet with youlater that day OR the next dayto have a Review of Findings session.   This Review of Findings session is very important, we always request patient to bring spouse, significant other, or parent(s).

During this Review of Findings, we will explain the findings from your consult, exam and x-rays (if taken), what kind of care you need, cost of care, and if chiropractic is what you need.  If you need to be referred to other specialist or if you need something other than what we provide – we will explain and recommend your best options.

By the end of this report you will enjoy the confidence that comes from knowing what is causing your health concerns and what it will take to get to the solution.  No treatments will begin until you understand what is being recommended and ready to start care.
10 helpful TIPS for your First Visit:
  1. Bring your picture ID and insurance/health savings cards you plan to use.  As a courtesy, we can call and verify your coverage depending on time and availability.   If you don't have insurance, no problem.  We accept cash, check or credit card.
  2. People with appointments have higher priority than people who walk-in without an appointment. So, call us ahead of time at (502) 839-7171 to schedule your AND your family members' appointments.
  3. We do NOT accept Workers' Compensation nor Disability Determination cases.
  4. We have a ZERO BALANCE POLICY.  Payments are expected at the time of service.
  5. If you recently have had x-rays, MRI, or CT scans taken, please bring the written report that the radiologist typed.  If you don't have this, call your doctor's office and have them fax the written x-ray/MRI/CT report to (502) 517-4754.
  6. If you are in severe pain or incapacitated, weak, have bouts of dizziness or vertigo, please have someone else drive you to our office and back to your home afterwards for your own safety.
  7. If your paperwork is all FILLED OUT completely BEFORE YOU STEP INTO our office, your First Visit will take less than an hour, depending on your condition, your ability to walk/move, complexity of your case, whether you talk too much about your neighbor or pets :), and whether the doctor recommends some adjunctive therapies to relieve your symptoms, etc.
  8. Wear simple clothing.   Avoid shirts or jeans with too many bling-bling metallic decorations and emblems.  NO METALLIC ITEMS.  For x-ray purposes, we will ask you to remove metal objects from your body or clothes such as belt buckle, most bras with wires and hooks, earrings, necklace, piercings (tongue, belly button, etc.). So, to save you time and hassle, avoid wearing too many metal items.
  9. If you have kids or a baby, no need to scramble for a sitter.  They'll do fine here.  If you are easily irritated by children, we will gladly help you find another chiropractic office in the area.  Our office is family friendly with kids often roam around and do things kids usually do :).
  10. If you have been here before but it's been months or years or if you had a recent injury or accident, we will still be required to do a reevaluation / examination before we start any care, to make sure we don't miss anything, to update your records, etc.   You also need to tell our staff your current address, phone #, etc.

GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL INSURANCE
We attempt to take out as much of the “insurance hassle” as possible for you. We’ll happily telephone your insurance company to verify your coverage benefits. Please remember, however, that the benefits quoted to us by your insurance company are not a guarantee of payment. We will file your claim as a courtesy, and await payment for 30 days. If your company pays the benefits they quote to us, the only services you will be responsible for are any non-covered services, deductibles or co-pays. If you have any questions at all regarding you financial responsibilities at our office, please do not hesitate to ask. Our insurance staff has years of experience and will be happy to assist you.

PATIENTS WITHOUT INSURANCE
You need help, we can help you. More and more people are working and living without any insurance coverage or they have high deductible (over $500, $2,500, etc.) they must pay out of pocket before insurance will kick in.
Many people take advantage of their company's Health FLEXible Spending Account, check if your company have one and use it before the end of the year so you don't forfeit it.  The tax deductible Health Savings Account is also becoming a popular option to set aside money for health purchases (dentist, chiropractic visits, eye exams, etc). We accept cash, personal check, money order, FLEX card, VISA, MasterCard, Discover cards, as well. Talk to us.

“ON THE JOB” INJURY (Worker’s Compensation)
If you are injured on the job, your care should be paid for under your employer’s Worker’s Compensation insurance.   Unfortunately we do NOT accept Worker's Compensation cases, so you should find a doctor who is in their network.

PERSONAL INJURY / AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS
Please notify your auto insurance carrier of your visit to our office immediately. Notify our insurance department immediately if an attorney is representing you.  Although you are ultimately responsible for your bill, we will wait for settlement of your claim for up to six months after your care is completed. Once the claim is settled or if you suspend or terminate care, any fees for services are due immediately.

MEDICARE
We do accept assignment from Medicare. The check is usually sent directly to our office in payment of the services that Medicare will cover, which for Chiropractors is ONLY manual manipulation of the spine. Medicare pays 80% of the allowable fee once the deductible has been met. You are required to pay the deductible and the remaining 20% as well as any non-covered services. Our office completes and files the forms for Medicare at no charge.

SECONDARY INSURANCE
Please inform us of any secondary insurance you may have. We will assist you if you need help in filing

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Nope. Doctors of Chiropractic are primary care providers just like Medical Doctors and Doctors of Osteopaths.  You don't need a referral to see us; come in anytime.

Do you accept my insurance?

We are here to help people NOT to help insurance companies.
Talk to us.
We accept patients who use most insurance companies such as Humana, Anthem BlueCross Blue Shields, Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Cigna, and many others.
Bring your insurance card and your photo ID and as a courtesy, we can call and verify the coverage for you.

What Happens During a Chiropractic Examination?

A chiropractor will take a medical history, conduct physical, neurological, and orthopedic examinations. Chiropractic physicians spend a considerable amount of time assessing posture, examining the spine, testing reflexes, joint motion, and muscle strength.   X-rays and other diagnostic images are often used to locate vertebral dysfunction and to rule out disorders like tumors or fractures, which require the attention of other healthcare experts.

How Much Does It Cost?

It depends on several things such as: the severity of your case, how many problems you have, what type of xrays you need, etc.  Just like going to a dentist, while some people need to have a root canal or extraction of one or five teeth, some other people only need one filling or one dental cleaning session. So it depends. The good news is there is no charge for a brief consult with a doc!

Call our office now (502-839-7171) or click the Request Appointment button on this page to schedule the initial consultation so we can evaluate your condition and determine if you are a candidate for chiropractic care. If the doctor accepts your case, our staff will inform you of the charges for the exam and x-rays, if necessary, before any services are performed.

We help patients with or without insurances. Many people these days also use their FLEX health spending account, or Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for their care. In some cases, not having an insurance may be a good thing since you are not bound to any restrictions of choosing providers. If you have a health insurance, we'll be happy to verify your insurance coverage as a courtesy. Call us 839-7171.

I got in a car accident recently.
What do I need to do?

If you plan to file a personal injury case through your auto insurance, during your first visit you must bring with you the Police Report of the Accident, the Claim Number paperwork from your auto insurance company, your photo ID, and the Personal Injury Form that you can download, print, and fill out BEFORE your appointment.

Can I walk in without appointments?

People with appointments have higher priority than people who walk-in without an appointment.   So, it is best to call us ahead of time at (502) 839-7171 to schedule your AND your family members' appointments

You may not be in my network.  What now?

Many insurance companies (PPOs) allow their members to go to providers that are out of the network. This is called out-of-network benefits.

I can't find a sitter to watch the kids during my appointment?

No problem. Babies and kids are VIPs here :). There's a Kids Korner area where toddlers and kids can play with our kids-approved train set, kids story books, etc. You may even see several other kids and babies during your visits.
